Emergence Program Description

The Emergence program aims to support young Canadian professional musicians in developing their careers by offering a unique opportunity for professional development and mentorship with Les Violons du Roy orchestra. In a context of artistic refinement, the Emergence program seeks to share the expertise and versatility of the orchestra, particularly with regard to musical style. Alongside rehearsals and concerts, mentoring activities with orchestra members will take place during the interns' residencies.

We are seeking two violinists and one violist. Selected candidates will be invited to perform with the orchestra three or four times during the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 seasons.

Selected candidates will be compensated as professional musicians for rehearsals and concerts, and will be provided with accommodation when needed, along with living and travel allowances. Rehearsals take place in Quebec City and concerts in Quebec City and Montreal.

Requirements

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of registration
  • Possess a high level of musical expertise
  • Hold or be in the process of obtaining a bachelor's or master's degree in music
  • Be a Canadian resident

Elements to submit with application

  • The duly completed registration form
  • An audition video
  • A curriculum vitae
  • A cover letter of maximum 300 words or a video of maximum 5 minutes, presenting your background, future projects, and motivation for this program
  • A letter of support from a teacher or mentor of maximum 300 words
  • A copy of valid identification showing your date of birth
  • A professional photo with credit in the bottom right corner

Audition Procedure

1st round:

  • Candidates are invited to submit a video audition. This round is open to all candidates who meet the requirements listed above.

2nd round:

  • Selected candidates will be invited to audition and meet with orchestra musicians in person in Quebec City on March 20, 2026.
  • The audition repertoire will be the same as that submitted in the video audition.
  • An accompanist pianist will be provided.

Audition Repertoire

Violin:

  1. One movement from a sonata or partita for solo violin by J.S. Bach
  2. Exposition of a fast movement from a classical concerto, with keyboard accompaniment
  3. One movement from a romantic sonata, with keyboard accompaniment

Viola:

  1. One movement from a sonata or partita for solo violin OR one movement from a suite for solo cello by J.S. Bach (candidate's choice)
  2. Exposition of a fast movement from a classical concerto, with keyboard accompaniment
  3. One movement from a romantic sonata, with keyboard accompaniment

Important Elements for Video Submission

  • The video must have been recorded less than 6 months ago
  • The video must be sent as a YouTube link
  • The total duration of submitted videos must not exceed 30 minutes
