After a noteworthy guest soloist appearance at the invitation of Jonathan Cohen in 2019, Nicolas Altstaedt is back for a highly anticipated return visit, this time in the dual role of soloist and conductor, with a rich and varied program that promises an exciting musical journey.

The concert will be preceded by a talk about the evening’s musical program, including what to listen for. The talk will take place onstage starting at 6:40 p.m.

artists today. As a soloist, conductor and artistic director, he performs repertoire from early music to contemporary.

Awarded the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award in 2010, Nicolas gave a critically praised performance of the Schumann concerto with the Vienna Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel at the Lucerne Festival. Since then, he has performed worldwide with orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne and New Zealand Symphony Orchestras, and all the BBC Orchestras under conductors such as Sir Roger Norrington, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sir Andrew Davis, Lahav Shani, Robin Ticciati, Sir Neville Marriner, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Andrew Manze, Emanuel Krivine, Juraj Valcuha, Thomas Dausgaard, Dmitri Slobodeniouk, Thierry Fischer, Ben Gernon, Karina Canellakis, René Jacobs, Giovanni Antonini, and Andrea Marcon.

Nicolas’s recording of CPE Bach concertos on Hyperion with Arcangelo and Jonathan Cohen received the 2017 BBC Music Magazine Concerto Award. His latest recording – Four Cities – a recital programme of works by Say, Debussy, Shostakovich, and Janacek with Fazil Say was released on Warner Classics to great acclaim and won the 2017 Edison Klassiek award.
