The baroque exoticism of Rameau

Jean-Philippe Rameau's Les Indes galantes ranks among the pinnacles of French opera-ballet. Created in 1735, this daring work transports the audience to four exotic “Indies”: Turkey, Peru, Persia, and North America.

A shimmering orchestral fresco

Bernard Labadie and Les Violons du Roy focus on the purely orchestral pages of this monumental work: overtures, dances, pantomimes, and instrumental interludes. Each symphony unfolds a distinct sound universe, from the spellbinding rhythms of the “Sauvages” to the sensual melodies of the “Fleur persane.”

Color above all else

Rameau revolutionized the Baroque orchestra with his daring use of timbres and harmonies. Les Violons du Roy bring these dazzling colors and orchestral sensuality back to life, making Les Indes galantes a unique musical experience where pure beauty of sound meets the evocation of distant worlds and universal passions.
