Les Violons du Roy announces 2021 summer concert series

Quebec City, June 22, 2021 – Les Violons du Roy is delighted to announce a summer program of concerts at different venues, including Palais Montcalm – Maison de la musique, CHSLDs around the city, and alongside talented local guest artists at festivals across the province. The summer concerts will be a chance to celebrate the joys of performing virtuoso repertoire for a live audience again.

After touring a dozen CHSLDs in and around Quebec City, Les Violons du Roy will perform some of the finest chamber music ever written in this summer musical reunion made up of varied, minimalist duets. It’s a unique opportunity for Les Violons du Roy to reconnect with their audience in person in the Raoul-Jobin Hall of Palais Montcalm – Maison de la musique.

Marking the centenary of the death of Camille Saint-Saëns, conductor Nicolas Ellis (recent recipient of the prestigious Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer prize) joins Les Violons du Roy and brilliant pianist David Jalbert to perform Romantic masterpieces by one of the greatest French composers and his contemporaries. The concert program was chosen with input from the orchestra’s close European partner, Palazzetto Bru Zane – Centre de musique romantique française.

Le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix International Festival

Les Violons du Roy are delighted to perform the opening concert for the Domaine Forget de Charlevoix International Festival on Saturday, June 26, at 8 p.m., with talented soprano Karina Gauvin and conductor Nicolas Ellis. The program will include symphonic works and arias from operas by Mozart, Haydn, and Gluck. 

And to close the festival, an intimate evening with Marie-Nicole Lemieux in her farewell concert as Domaine Forget de Charlevoix ambassador. The famous contralto will join Les Violons du Roy and Jonathan Cohen to perform, among others, a work dear to her heart: Sea Pictures by Edward Elgar. 

The live performances by Les Violons du Roy at the Domaine Forget de Charlevoix International Festival are already sold out, but for the enjoyment of all music lovers, the events will be streamed on the following dates:

  • June 30 to July 14: Les Violons du Roy and Karina Gauvin
  • August 25 to September 8: Les Violons du Roy and Marie-Nicole Lemieux

Festival de Lanaudière

Also on the festival circuit, Les Violons du Roy will perform two concerts at Amphithéâtre Fernand-Lindsay as part of the Festival de Lanaudière. Their first appearance will be on Saturday, July 24, at 8 p.m., with the brilliant Canadian violinist Kerson Leong and conductor Nicolas Ellis in a program that brings together two very different musical worlds: Baroque Italy and Piazzolla’s Buenos Aires.

Then, on Sunday, July 25, at 8 p.m., with talented soprano Karina Gauvin and conductor Nicolas Ellis, Les Violons du Roy will present a program of works by Mozart, Haydn, and Gluck in what promises to be a truly memorable summer concert.
