Jean-Marie Zeitouni began to work with Les Violons du Roy in 2001. Over the years, he has conducted over a hundred concerts with the orchestra in North America, in programs ranging from Baroque to contemporary music. In 2006, he made his first recording with Les Violons du Roy, Piazzolla, which won a Juno award for classical album of the year - solo or chamber ensemble. His second recording with the orchestra, released in the fall of 2008, featured music by Bartók. He has continued his exploration of 20th-century music with Les Violons du Roy and soprano Karina Gauvin in a recording of music by Britten, scheduled for release in the spring of 2010.
Jean-Marie Zeitouni is well known in North America as an opera conductor, and has directed several productions at L’Opéra de Montréal, L’Opéra de Québec, the Banff Center, the Calgary Opera, the Edmonton Opera, the Glimmerglass Opera, the Cincinnati Opera and the Opera Theatre of Saint-Louis. He has also appeared as a guest conductor in Canada with the symphony orchestras in Montréal, Québec City, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary, as well as the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Ensemble Arion and Le Club musical de Québec.
Outside Canada, Jean-Marie Zeitouni has conducted the Oregon Symphony, Honolulu Symphony, Monterey Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Houston Symphony, Columbus Symphony, Omaha Symphony and Cincinnati Symphony, the Handel & Haydn Society in Boston, the Philharmonique de Marseille, the Xalapa Symphony and the National Symphony of Mexico. He is regularly invited to conduct at leading festivals such as Festival de Lanaudière, Festival international du Domaine Forget, the Elora Festival, the Parry Sound Festival and the Mostly Mozart Festival. During the 2009-2010 season he appears for the first time with the symphony orchestras in Toronto, Winnipeg, London and Kitchener-Waterloo.
A versatile musician, Jean-Marie Zeitouni has done extensive work as an arranger and in a wide range of musical styles. He also performed as a percussionist with many orchestras and chamber music groups all over the world. Jean-Marie Zeitouni graduated from the Montreal Conservatory in conducting, percussion and theory. He studied with Maestro Raffi Armenian.
