G.F. HANDEL Messiah, HWV 56

Quebec City, November 15, 2011 – On Sunday, December 11 at 3 p.m., Bernard Labadie, La Chapelle de Québec, and Les Violons du Roy will treat Montrealers to the Maison symphonique de Montréal premiere of Handel’s Messiah. A distinguished quartet of soloists made up of soprano Lydia Teuscher, countertenor Matthew White, tenor James Taylor, and bass Tim Mirfin will join the orchestra at Place des Arts for the occasion.

“This Messiah in particular was, for the combined excellence of the choral singing and the orchestral playing, the best I’ve heard in years.”
(J. Oestreich, New York Times, December 2009)

Two years after conquering audiences at New York’s Carnegie Hall and Los Angeles’s Walt Disney Concert Hall, the instrumentalists and chorus-members are eager to dive back into the score so Montrealers can have a chance to discover—or rediscover—the celebrated oratorio. The phenomenal acoustics of the new hall will enable the public to fully appreciate the chorus and orchestra’s outstanding take on the work, which has contributed to their national and international renown. The fabulous voices, outstanding guest soloists, and the musicians’ and conductor’s commitment to the music are sure to delight audiences. Music lovers should reserve their place early to avoid missing out on what promises to be one of the high points of the 2011–2012 season.

VIP tickets are available for the December 11 concert for $125. Tickets include the concert, a post-performance reception, and a copy of Les Violons du Roy’s CD Bonbons, which was nominated for the Juno and ADISQ awards in 2011.

The December 11 performance is presented by Optimum Group.

The Messiah will also be presented on December 8 and 9 at 8 p.m. at Palais Montcalm’s Salle Raoul-Jobin in Quebec City.
