2010–2011 MONTREAL SEASON
A WORLD-CLASS LINEUP FOR LES VIOLONS DU ROY AND
LA CHAPELLE DE QUÉBEC

FROM NEAR AND FAR

Montréal, Tuesday, March 2, 2010 – Music director Bernard Labadie announced details of the 2010–2011 season of Les Violons du Roy and La Chapelle de Québec today. Audiences can look forward to visits from leading soloists, including reputed English tenor Ian Bostridge, who will join the chamber orchestra for a North American tour with stops in Montreal and nine other cities. There will also be great moments with La Chapelle de Québec, including a feature performance of Vivaldi’s choral masterpiece Gloria. New this year, all six Montreal concerts will be presented at St. James United Church (463 rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest, Montreal).

Soloists from near and far
Bernard Labadie and Les Violons du Roy open the season in grand style with contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux, who will lend her artistry to a classical program featuring works by Mozart and Gluck. Alexandre Tharaud, a highly sought-after pianist on the concert circuit, will interpret one of Mozart’s most moving works, the Concerto No. 9 in E-flat major, K. 271 “Jeunehomme” (February 5). And to round out the season, English tenor Ian Bostridge will enchant audiences with works composed by Handel and Vivaldi for three great Baroque-era tenors (April 26).

Bach, Vivaldi and La Chapelle de Québec
La Chapelle de Québec has an electrifying season in store once again with masterworks from the choral repertoire, including Vivaldi’s Gloria and Haydn’s Paukenmesse (December 5). In what is sure to be another season highlight, the choir and orchestra will team up with four extraordinary soloists— soprano Shannon Mercer, mezzo-soprano Mireille Lebel, tenor Colin Balzer, and baritone Thomas Meglioranza—to offer some of Jean-Sebastian Bach’s most beautiful cantatas (February 27). The music of Bach will also be the star attraction when Bernard Labadie and his musicians interpret the six of the Brandenburg Concertos (November 5).
