RIVETING RECORDER PLAYER AND CONDUCTOR MAURICE STEGER TO PERFORM WORKS OF SPARKLING VIRTUOSITY WITH LES VIOLONS DU ROY
Quebec City, February 4, 2020 – Riveting recorder virtuoso and conductor Maurice Steger joins Les Violons du Roy in a program of sparkling, jaw-dropping Baroque works. The concert, entitled Un banquet baroque avec Maurice Steger, will feature recorder concertos and other works by Handel, Purcell, Geminiani, and their contemporaries—a musical banquet filled to the brim with intoxicating rhythms and sweet harmonies. It all happens on Thursday, February 13, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Palais Montcalm - Maison de la musique in Quebec City and Friday, February 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Bourgie Hall in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
“Paganini of the recorder” and “the world’s leading recorder player” are just a few of the descriptions of Maurice Steger to appear in the press. Underlying such accolades is not just astonishing technique but charisma and a special musical sensitivity. As a soloist, conductor, or both at once, he regularly performs with the foremost period instrument ensembles, including the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, La Cetra, the English Concert, and I Barocchisti. He also performs with leading modern orchestras such as the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and the NDR Radiophilharmonie.
