MIREILLE LEBEL STEPS IN FOR MAGDALENA KOŽENÁ

May 29, 2018 – Mezzo-soprano Mireille Lebel will replace Magdalena Kožená in two Les Violons du Roy concerts led by founding conductor Bernard Labadie, on Monday, June 4, 2018, at 8 p.m. in the Raoul-Jobin Hall of Palais Montcalm – Maison de la musique in Quebec City, and on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at 7:30 in the Bourgie Hall of Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal.

For family reasons Ms. Kožená must regretfully cancel her engagement for these concerts, including those for the South America tour June 9–13, 2018.

Mireille Lebel, mezzo-soprano
Canadian mezzo-soprano Mireille Lebel began her career with Opéra de Montréal’s Young Artists’ Program. Last season she performed at the Prague State Opera in the title role of Carmen. She was also invited back to Theater Erfurt in Germany for the title role of Orfeo ed Euridice and sang the role of Ljubica in the reprise of Svadba by Ana Sokolović (which premiered at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in 2015) at Angers Nantes Opéra. Recent concert performances include a program of Handel and Vivaldi arias with Tafelmusik under maestro Rodolfo Richter, a selection of Vivaldi arias with Arion Baroque Orchestra under maestro Enrico Onofri, Britten’s Phaedra cantata with I Musici de Montréal, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with Jean-Marie Zeitouni, and Handel’s Messiah with the Kansas City Symphony. She has collaborated regularly with La Chapelle de Québec and Les Violons du Roy for almost a decade.

On June 4 and 6, Les Violons du Roy will be pleased to reunite with Mireille Lebel for an opera program dedicated to Handel. Conducted by Bernard Labadie, the musicians will also play two concerti grossi by Handel.
