Quebec City, April 23, 2018 – The acclaimed violinist Isabelle Faust joins Les Violons du Roy for a concert tour that takes the chamber orchestra across the USA. Under the direction of Les Violons du Roy founding conductor Bernard Labadie, the musicians will perform a program of instrumental works by Johann Sebastian Bach. Performances will take place in six prestigious venues, including Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and Carnegie Hall in New York, from April 24 to May 5.

Les Violons du Roy is delighted to collaborate for a second time with violinist Isabelle Faust, with whom the orchestra gave a series of concerts in Quebec in 2016. The program for the American tour comprises Violin Concertos in A Minor, BWV 1041, and in E Major, BWV 1042, showcasing the soloist’s virtuosic playing. Isabelle Faust is a remarkable and captivating interpreter of the great violin concertos. She performs each work considering the historical context and applies techniques appropriate to the style period. Drawing on her keen interest in diverse forms of Western music, from chamber music to solo concertos with modern and period instruments, she shares with her listeners all the colors of the original works. In performing the Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, BWV 1043, she will be joined by the concertmaster of Les Violons du Roy, Pascale Giguère.

The program also features Bernard Labadie’s transcriptions and arrangements of Bach’s works, including his realization of The Art of Fugue. Bernard Labadie is well known for his passion for Bach’s music. Over the years, he has performed Bach’s most significant masterpieces, some as transcriptions, offering reinterpretations that dive deep into the textures created by the musical genius. In addition to the final fugue of The Art of Fugue, Les Violons du Roy performs string orchestra versions of Bach’s three Leipzig chorales and of his grandiose Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, BWV 582.

Every year for over twenty years now, Les Violons du Roy has presented a North American tour. On this occasion, not only will the musicians return to New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC, where they will strengthen already established collaborations, but the orchestra will also reach new audiences, particularly in California (Rohnert Park) and in Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh).
