LES VIOLONS DU ROY ON TOUR IN LATIN AMERICA

Quebec City, June 5, 2018 - Les Violons du Roy is pleased to announce that, following the final concerts of the 2017/18 season in Quebec City and Montreal on June 4 and 6, respectively, the orchestra will go on tour in Latin America from June 9 to 13.

In Quebec City and Montreal, Les Violons du Roy is delighted to be performing with mezzo-soprano Mireille Lebel, who has achieved growing international fame ever since her debut with Opéra de Montréal’s Atelier lyrique. She is known for her undeniable charisma and high-calibre performances of opera repertoire by Handel, Gluck, Mozart, and Massenet, among others.

On tour in Latin America, Les Violons du Roy is excited to be working for the very first time with Russian soprano Julia Lezhneva, whose career skyrocketed after she created a sensation at the Classical Brit Awards in London in 2010. Her exceptionally virtuosic and refined interpretations make her an unparalleled performer of the music of Mozart and Handel.

Under the direction of founding conductor Bernard Labadie in Mexico City on June 9 and Bogota on June 13, and under the direction of conductor Mathieu Lussier in Sao Paulo on June 11, Les Violons du Roy will perform a program featuring arias from operas by Handel and Vivaldi. The musicians will also play two concerti grossi by Handel.

From June 9 to 13, Les Violons du Roy’s Latin American tour will shine an international spotlight on the Quebec music scene. The tour marks Les Violons du Roy’s tenth concert in Mexico and the ensemble’s debut performances in Brazil and Colombia.

Les Violons du Roy’s concerts in Quebec City and Montreal on June 4 and 6 and the tour in Latin America were initially scheduled with the participation of mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená, who had to regretfully cancel her engagement for these concerts, including those for the Latin American tour June 9–13, due to family reasons.
