Quebec City, February 14, 2019Les Violons du Roy Foundation is thrilled to announce that following a two year wait worth every minute its fortepiano has at last arrived. The acquisition of this fortepiano comes at the instigation of Les Violons du Roy founding conductor Bernard Labadie and Les Violons du Roy Foundation chair Yves Demers with the generous assistance of a remarkable group of patrons determined to see the ensemble Les Violons du Roy equipped to pursue ever-more authentic performances of the Classical repertoire.

A sophisticated, concert-quality instrument like this one is what a chamber orchestra like Les Violons du Roy needs for performances with the great fortepiano virtuosos of our day. Audiences will thrill as its distinctive sound sheds a whole new light on the listening experience, particularly in the 18th-century chamber music repertoire.

“This magnificent fortepiano is virtually identical to the instruments Mozart himself would have played on,” said Maestro Labadie. “With it, Les Violons du Roy can plumb the richness of the late 18th-century repertoire even more deeply. The delight of our audiences will be surpassed only by that of the musicians themselves.”

The instrument, created by American keyboard instrument builder Rodney J. Regier, will be unveiled to the media on Wednesday, March 6, at 4:30 p.m. in D’Youville Hall at Palais Montcalm - Maison de le musique. Les Violons du Roy Foundation, Bernard Labadie and Yves Demers will be happy to welcome the media representatives to this event and to answer questions.

Les Violons du Roy Foundation exists to support the orchestra’s development and provide for its future. It operates special funds for community outreach and youth programs and is building a bank of instruments for members of the orchestra to play.

Audiences’ first opportunity to hear the new pianoforte will be in Jonathan Cohen et La Création de Haydn on February 27 and 28 in Quebec City and March 3 in Montreal, for. Tickets are available at the Palais Montcalm Maison de la musique box office at 418-641-6040 (toll free 1-877-641-6040) and the Place des Arts box office in Montreal at 514-842-2112 (toll free 1-866-842-2112).

Les Violons du Roy thanks the generous benefactors who contributed to this acquisition.
