LES VIOLONS DU ROY ANNOUNCE THE NAMES OF THE SIX FINALISTS OF ITS 2021 CONCERTO COMPETITION PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DOMAINE FORGET DE CHARLEVOIX

Quebec City, March 26, 2021Les Violons du Roy is pleased to present the second edition of its concerto competition in partnership with Domaine Forget de Charlevoix. The international competition is open to advanced string players (violinists, violists, cellists, double bassists) ages 25 and under.

Many young musicians from Canada and abroad answered the call, with wonderful video submissions of their performances of baroque and classical concertos.

Based on those videos, six finalists were selected by a jury composed of the Les Violons du Roy musicians and their music director Jonathan Cohen. To help them work on their concerto pieces, finalists will be mentored individually in an online class with a member of Les Violons du Roy in the week of March 29. They will also take part in an online masterclass with Jonathan Cohen that will be open to the public. The finalists will then be invited to submit new videos that will be used to select the three winners.

Here are the names of the 6 finalists:

Jean-François Carrière, cello – Québec, Canada
Jérôme Chiasson, violin – Québec, Canada
Erika Hubbard, violin – Utah, USA
Frédéric Pouliot, violin - Québec, Canada
Julien Siino, cello – Québec, Canada
