Quebec City, October 10, 2018 – During Jonathan Cohen’s first North American tour as music director, Les Violons du Roy will offer a program juxtaposing works by G.F. Handel and Philip Glass accompanied by the extraordinary countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo in concert halls at major American universities between October 10 and 21, 2018.

Jonathan Cohen is considered one of the most promising conductors of his generation. Specializing in Baroque and Classical repertoires, he is the founding conductor and artistic director of Arcangelo, an early music ensemble that dazzles both the public and critics alike. He is also associate conductor of Les Arts Florissants, William Christie’s legendary ensemble. For Les Violons du Roy, his arrival marks the beginning of a new chapter that builds on the success of the orchestra, which has been performing 17th and 18th century music in Quebec and elsewhere since it was founded in 1984.

merican countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, known for his impressive voice and daring performances, won first prize in the Operalia competition in 2012. He has a brilliant career in opera (performing regularly at the Metropolitan Opera), concert, and recital performance.

Les Violons du Roy’s Glass–Handel tour with Anthony Roth Costanzo follows the release of its new album ARC – Glass/Handel on Universal Music’s Decca Gold label. For over twenty years, Les Violons du Roy has toured North America at least once a year. This time, the orchestra will reach new audiences in six U.S. cities:
