DON QUICHOTTE À PARIS

Quebec City, May 15, 2019 – Groundbreaking violinist and conductor Julien Chauvin debuts with Les Violons du Roy in a program of French and German Baroque masterworks. Actor Normand Chouinard takes the stage in the second half of the program in the ever-fascinating role of Don Quixote, whose madcap adventures were so lushly scored by Telemann. The concert will take place on Thursday, May 23, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Palais Montcalm - Maison de la musique in Quebec City, and on Friday, May 24, at 7:30 p.m. at Bourgie Hall in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

An Early Music specialist who performs on period instruments, Julien Chauvin is known for his dedication to reviving forgotten works of the French orchestral and vocal-operatic repertoire. With his ensemble Le Concert de la Loge, which he founded in 2015, he also explores innovative forms of conducting and concert formats that encourage spontaneous and imaginative reactions from the audience. He performs regularly with Jean-François Heisser, Alain Planès, Christophe Coin, Justin Taylor, and Olivier Baumont and has recorded a CD with the latter entitled À Madame. Divertissement pour Adélaïde at the Château de Versailles on the Aparté label.

In this performance with Les Violons du Roy, Julien Chauvin will play Jean-Marie’s Leclair’s Violin Concerto in D Minor, op. 7, no. 1. The orchestra’s musicians are looking forward to playing works under his direction that showcase Baroque’s distinctive features. And the collaboration with actor Normand Chouinard in Telemann’s “Burlesque de Quixotte” Suite in G Major promises to be a one-of-a-kind experience for the audience.
