Chamber Music at Monastère des Augustines

Published on November 15, 2018

Quebec City, November 15, 2018 – Music director Jonathan Cohen and the musicians of Les Violons du Roy will draw inspiration from new surroundings as they fill the halls of Monastère des Augustines with the sublime chamber music of Arcangelo Corelli and other masters of the Baroque era. Together, they’ll perform two different programs in the monastery chapel, the first on Wednesday, November 28 at 7:30 p.m. and the second on Thursday, November 29 at 7:30 p.m.

A singular musician and champion of chamber music, Jonathan Cohen is particularly thrilled with the variety of the works and instrumentations featured in the two programs.

“At Les Violons du Roy, we share a great love of music and a great respect for the art form,” says Maestro Cohen. “Because of our mutual trust, the musicians have the courage to bring a spontaneity to their playing that really elevates the music to new heights.”

Both programs will begin with a selection of trio sonatas and other string works, with Jonathan Cohen at the harpsichord. Next, the entire ensemble will come together for a concerto grosso from Corelli’s famous Opus 6.
