Quebec City, March 11, 2020 – Music Director of La Chapelle de Québec Bernard Labadie will lead the choir in performances of Fauré’s and Duruflé’s Requiems in Los Angeles, Quebec City, and Montreal this spring. Soprano Lydia Teuscher, mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne, and baritone Jean-François Lapointe are featured as soloists in a program full of gentle peace and sublime spirituality.

La Chapelle de Québec first partners with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the amazing Walt Disney Concert Hall on March 27, 28, and 29. Then it’s back to Quebec to join forces with Les Violons du Roy on the following dates:

In Quebec City and Montreal, La Chapelle de Québec, Les Violons du Roy, and the soloists will perform from a special critical edition of the Fauré for chamber orchestra, selected by Maestro Labadie to highlight the Requiem’s mood of consolation and contemplation. It is one of Fauré’s most frequently performed works—the moving Pie Jesu in particular is irresistible. Duruflé pursues a similar aesthetic in his Requiem, with its modest, intimate orchestral forces. In it, Gregorian chant melodies are given 20th-century harmonic settings with tremendous refinement and profound sensibility. Audiences can experience all the depth of feeling the composers put into each of these soulful masterworks.
