Events in Quebec and abroad impacted by the health crisis

Quebec City, April 7, 2020 – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Les Violons du Roy and La Chapelle de Québec announce the cancellation of all 2019–2020 season performances scheduled for March 15 to June 5, 2020.

These are unprecedented times, and Les Violons du Roy, like most other cultural organizations, is not immune to the impacts of the health crisis. A mass movement of solidarity to help cultural organizations is underway. In that spirit, we ask that patrons consider donating the cost of their ticket(s) back to Les Violons du Roy. We are grateful to those of you who have already done or plan to do so—your support is critical. Ticket refunds will also be offered, including in the form of Palais Montcalm – Maison de la musique gift cards.

Les Violons du Roy will work with the ticket offices of Palais Montcalm – Maison de la musique, Place des Arts, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts’ Bourgie Hall to contact ticket holders for cancelled performances to make alternative arrangements.

Les Violons du Roy and La Chapelle de Québec have also had to cancel their scheduled international events. The La Chapelle de Québec concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on March 27, 28, and 29 was cancelled. The spring U.S. tour of Les Violons du Roy featuring mandolin player Avi Avital and conductor Jonathan Cohen, initially announced for April 21 to May 3, 2020, will also not take place.

Les Violons du Roy management is closely monitoring the health crisis and measures announced by government officials. Detailed information on the next season of Les Violons du Roy and La Chapelle de Québec will be released as soon as the situation improves. Information on the organization’s featured concert series for the 2020–2021 season is already available on the website.

Les Violons du Roy’s season in Quebec City is presented by Hydro-Québec.
Les Violons du Roy’s Montreal season is presented by La Capitale Insurance and Financial Services.
Les Violons du Roy would like to thank the Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and Ville de Québec for their support.
