RAPHAËL DUBÉ   CELLO

Raphaël Dubé is no stranger to the concert stage, whether as soloist, chamber musician, or as part of an orchestra. As a member of the Les Violons du Roy since 2008 and co-artistic director of Ensemble Chorum, he brings the same intensity to the repertoire of all periods and partakes in a wide variety of musical activities. He has appeared several times as a soloist with Les Violons du Roy, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and Orchestre symphonique du Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, collaborating with the likes of Bernard Labadie, Jacques Lacombe, and Raffi Armenian. He has twice appeared at New York’s Carnegie Hall as a member of the Amity Players Piano Quartet. He released a recording of Brahms’ piano quartets with that ensemble on Marquis Classics in 2007. Recently he joined harpist Valérie Milot in a chamber music recording on the Analekta label, which was nominated for a Félix Award from ADISQ in 2011.

Raphaël Dubé knew from the first that he was destined to be a musician. His cello studies began in the class of Monique and Walter Joachim. From 1999 to 2005 he attended Conservatoire de musique de Montréal under the tutelage of Carole Sirois, then completed a master’s with Timothy Eddy at New York City’s Mannes College of Music. Before joining Les Violons du Roy, he spent the 2007–2008 season with the New World Symphony.
